If you want a better spear for a hopolite use a longspear. Make it a martial weapon that deals 1d8 damage, has reach and can be used one handed. WebThe Dueling fighting style combined with the Polearm Master Feat will make up the damage from not taking a two-hander (not accounting for Great Weapon Master), and the extra attack per turn is great for fishing for crit's for extra juicy smites.
